this business week story has more details on Google's social network API.

Its an opening of Orkut. Sort of like how Facebook opened itself to 3rd party apps with its API. I expect this API will be an order of magnitude more open and flexable.

a social network in a GTK application for OpenMoko is an interesting idea. the gPhone has a " a wireless operating system under wraps at Googleplex". i  imagine the operating system is linux with some google specific libs. i doubt it'll be enough to justify the 'operating system' label.
