Wine emulates Windows well enough for iTunes
the open source windows emulation project, wine, has reached (just barely) a bar i've been waiting for years for - iTunes support. The appdb reports that if you have the latest wine on ubuntu and copy the iTunes application directory from an already installed copy on a windows box, iTunes will start and play music.
iTunes is becoming less important though, partly because i never felt the need to own an iPod, and partly because other services are good and drm-free like emusic and the upcoming amazon music store.
