non-computer youth

while reading today's greatday posting which talked about looking back on one's youth, one thing i try to remember is that i wasn't born with a keyboard in my hand. i use computers for many hours a day even when im not working. yet i was born just before personal computers started to take off in the 80s. My  very first computer contact was in the fifth grade. age 11. Almost all character development is set by age 5. And by age 11, thats 10 years of non-computer experiences. Playing outside and watching TV. No software coding. No system administration. No Internet. No email.

One thing I can remember being crazy about was motorcycles. I had a nice 'minibike' from sears that I rode all around the yard. Later we kept a friend's 80cc yamaha at the house and I tore up the neighborhood on it for years.
