the power of webservices

the gridcolo site doesnt look like much but its pretty cool underneath. gridcolo is a webservice. its a rails app called 'boxbrain' that has WSDL interfaces at api.gridcolo.net. the web site at www.gridcolo.net is a rails webapp that talks to boxbrain. the service plans displayed are queried from boxbrain. the account management and slice management will also be webservices on boxbrain.

what occurred to me yesterday is that a command line interface to gridcolo.net would be pretty cool. it'd be the only hosting facility where you could browse the offerings and purchase a virtual server from /usr/local/bin/gridcolo. you can also manage your account, reboot the box, etc, right from the command line on whatever unix system you call home.

one spike to investigate is could google base be leveraged somehow?
