kid tracking

the electronic tracking of the geospacial position of humans will come first in the form of kid tracking because a) kids have few rights and b) loosing track of your kids is at times a scarry experience.

there is a light-on-the-details story on engadget about kid tracking.

what caught my attention is the idea of the jacket shown having an integrated display and avatars the represent other children. it reminded me of virtual pets.

its also possible that all adults are already tracked by our cell phones and the government has easy access to that data and can require the cell phone companies to not say anything. I'd feel better about it if the cell phone manufacturers/carriers would open up a J2ME API so I can use that same data for my own purposes.
