as i see the cold and the snow here, it makes me think about how much energy we get from the sun. Without it the surface of the earth is a cold dead rock. We would be nothing without the sun. Even with our energy technology, i would guess that 90% of the planet would be dead in a few days. Some would have their own enery/food reserves, for example people who live near the poles. At the extreme, people on nuclear powered ships and subs would surivive possibly for months.

As cold as it is up here, on the equator its still toasty warm. Honolulu for example has a high of 81 degrees. Nome alaska has a high of 31 degrees. Thats amazing.
