coop data utility recipe

find the balance in these variables

the demand for bandwidth in bits per second the amount of disposable income available for data services in dollars the cost of a meshbox in dollars the node density needed for at least two routes from any node in nodes per square mile

add services, such as VoIP, neighborhood games , neighborhood chat (location oriented services).

Implement as a federation of node owners that calls itself a cooperative data utility.

bake for two years.

of the various crazy ideas, this one seems to have a shred of a true contribution towards the pubilc good as well as a potential to employ me.

two routes to every node is ideal so noone is in a stranglehold by anyone else. it keeps open the option to "route around the problem". redundancy is nice, but the real problem will be philosophical differences. if your neighbor with the big pipe insists that data flowing through "his/her node" is heavily filtered, you want options.

i think its real contribution to humanity is to expose/teach the american public to alternative ways to organize non-critical human endeavors. There is something inbetween private ownership and the tragedy of the commons.
