i came into town off the max from the west side this morning, and swung by the CCC bike trash trailer. No kid's bike yet. There was a smaller wheel that would be interesting if I could get two of them. So naturally, with no bike parts to think about, my mind went back to MMORPGs. I thought about Lag and about starwars galaxies and how the one beta tester i know of had lots of server-unavailable problems. The existance of the client should contribute to the creation of a virtual server, that exists only in networking among the clients. So really there should be no server, peer to peer only. The app has to share a large amount of state amongst all the players. And the logic of the game cant progress untill everyone has verified they've received the latest state update. So the more players, the more lag or at least potential for lag. Multicast IP would be cool here. Plus you need a directory server of some sort, or rely on the players communicating out-of-band to get their clients to find each other.
