Mark, one of the guys I rode with to Eugene a couple weekends ago, had his bike stolen off his apartment porch. The porch is one floor off the ground with only a sliding glass door right into the apartment livingroom as its entry/exit. The theif must have climbed up to the balcony and lowered or dropped the bike to the ground.

to have a device with a GPS receiver (data in) and a GPRS (data in/out) module that was cheap enough, small enough to imbed into a bike, and had a source of power (okay okay i know its a stretch) would be a good thing. I read that "the Woz" is working on esentially a homing beacon to help recover lost things. That might be good enough.
