computer games about movies work because the customer is already familiar with the world. half-life for instance, when you pick up the box, the box has to start from zero and try to pull you into the world. the box for middle earth online has to convince you that playing the game is just like being in the world you saw on the screen.

so there are mmorpgs about movies, but what if the movie happened in the game? I was thinking it would be SWEET to have the entire script of the books played out in the game. You could ignore it if you wanted, but it was happening. there would be a news site to say what part of the world was the current centerpoint of the story. you could tag along and be the 10th (or more like the 300th) person in the fellowship!

if you ignored the story, you could not ignore the traveling orc armies on their way to eisengard, assuming you were living in the time period where that happened. i suppose the plot of the book lasts for 3 seasons at most, unless you count all the time frodo waited for gandalf to return to the shire. it seems there are some cool possibilites.
