Heaven Cafe. it seems to be the 'next level' of geek hangout. with its pretty, flatscreen displays, non-stop techno, and average age of 19, it has a lot to like for young geeks. now i havent spent much time in san francisco but i think the owner, a suave 40 something former IT manager, has recreated the feel of a san francisco club possibly more accurately than portland has ever seen. The electronic music really appeals to me. The employees seem wrapped up in teen-age drama and heavily influenced by the owner. I left the cafe at 10pm and as i walked out the door, my buddy aml waved to me. it felt like he was on a cruise ship that was just leaving port, and i was the one staying behind.
im on page 80 something of Cryptonomicon by neil stephenson - a 900+ page book. so far its been a fun read. I like the bits of math and high-tech business lore. neil gets too sarcastic sometimes. he implies that geeks need as much booty as non-geeks, which is a refreshing notion.
