i cant sleep. work takes all my free time. im not getting time to think about my ideas. so instead of being able to sleep, my mind races around in a dozen tight little circles of though. jumping from circle to circle.
re-do the idea of a process, virtual memory, and a filesystem all at the same time. ram, local disk, remote disk, are all part of the same object space. each storage location has its own policies. 'packaging' would be eliminated - no moving zip files around and running installers.
bluetooth. recently ive have the bluetooth frying pan put on the back burner. reading some more about it and dreaming some more have rekindled the fire. www.pocit.com has some basic object transfer software. I believe bluetooth is going to need a lot of user interface paradigms created. even with its 1200 page bluetooth spec. I also think BlueTalk or any commercial product will hold up to an Open Source solution.
reading Rebel Code is really really good. Its great to see some real dates and go oh yeah. linux came out in 91. v1.0 was in 93 right around when i was downloading slackware onto 3.5" disks in the engineering lab at Univ of Portland where they had a room full of IPCs and twm was the only window manager anybody used.
I need to come up with a domain for spc. i now have a static hostname for my box. coop.consumption.net. which is nice. yi.org can be flakey.
i go to sleep late i get up late i get in late i leave late. its a vicious cycle.
great quote from andrew tridgall(sp) the author of minix, regarding linux and linus: "anyone designing a monolithic kernel (as compared to a microkernel) in 1991 would not get a good grade in my class."
